Social media is a particularly important arena to improve the ability of Israeli communities to live together. Dibur Acher develops and implements tools to influence discourse on different media platforms and to bring the “tribes” of modern Israel together.
“Dibur Acher plays a special role in elections, when political discourse is particularly acute and offensive. Unfortunately, two election campaigns in a year emphasize the differences between diverse communities and radicalize the polarization between various parts of Israeli society.
In the 1st national election campaign in 2019, Living Together offered an online Hot Talk Social Media campaign in which more than 3 million Israelis participated, 700,000 watched our videos and 150 organizations, Facebook pages and individuals discussed the problem of radicalization in social media discourse (Hot Talk challenge).
To influence the nature of political discourse in the 2nd national election campaign, we created influential online videos to expose “Dibur Acher (Different Talk)” on social media. For further information, please visit the following video site.
Dibur Acher – Offline
To influence the social and political discourse online, Living Together also operates activities offline. This year 2,000 individuals participated in our various workshops, lectures and courses. In the last academic semester, we provided a Dibur Acher course at the Azrieli College of Engineering in Jerusalem. It was the first of its kind in any higher educational institute in the country. As part of the course, students from various political and social backgrounds learned to influence online social media by using our Dibur Acher tools.
In September 2019 our staff participated in a Dibur Acher INSIDE workshop with Facebook Israel to learn about diverse network communities in Israel and creative ways to bring stories to the fore, and thus instigate change and influence online and the general discourse. We also learned about Facebook’s vision and tools for community management and experimented with the practical tools of Dibur Acher.
