The eldest daughter of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Bar-Shalom is the founder of the ultra-orthodox college in Jerusalem and member of Bar-Ilan university’s executive committee. In summer of 2011, Bar Shalom participated in the Spivak-Yona team that was formed following the social protests.
Bar-Shalom received an honorary Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University and a “Knight of Quality Government Medal” from the Movement for Quality Government in Israel.
Bar-Shalom is also an honorary associate of the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya, Ruppin College, and the Kinneret Academic College.
On Independence Day in 2014, Bar-Shalom was awarded the Israel Prize for her life's work, and special contribution to society and the country, and was also one of the Torch Lighters in the Torch-Lighting Ceremony, The central ceremony on Israel's Independence Day.
