Community Rabbi for the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood in Jerusalem, and Rabbi of the Ner Yossef spiritual center. He previously served as Director of Programs for the recognized non-formal education system in the fields of Judaism and Society at the Ministry of Education’s Beit Yatziv national complementary studies center.
Rabbi Smadja presents a daily slot and a weekly Judaism class on the weekly Torah portion on the Reshet Moreshet radio station, which is part of the state radio network - Kan.
Rabbi Smadja initiates and works to create interfaith dialogues through diverse organizations such as Hommes de Parole and other initiatives connected with protecting Israel in the UN. Following friction between Ramat Shlomo youth and their counterparts from the nearby Arab village of Shuafat, Rabbi Smadja initiated a meeting with Shuafat’s mukhtar and other dignitaries.
For the past 30 years, Rabbi Smadja has written and edited a series of books on Laws of the Fifth Volume of the Shulchan Aruch. The series deals with issues not presented in the renowned four volumes, which relate to laws on the conduct of human interactions. An outcome of this work was Rabbi Smadja’s authorship of study materials for the ultra-Orthodox school systems on laws addressing social conduct, manners, and mutual respect. He also serves as Head of the R&D department at the Bnei Yossef education network.
