Yuval is a community lawyer, professor of law, and dean of the Faculty of Law at Ono Academic College. He has founded and directed a number of organizations, among them: Yedid - Association for Community Empowerment, a network of citizens’ rights centers in Israel’s geographical periphery; the Clinical Legal Education Center at Hebrew University of Jerusalem; and the human rights division of the College of Law and Business. Concurrently, he served as a senior lecturer at Hebrew University and at universities in Nepal, Poland, and elsewhere. Elbashan has co-authored numerous parliamentary bills for the advancement of human rights in Israel and been involved in social causes that attracted broad public interest. In 2004, he was chosen by Globes newspaper as a Person of the Year in the field of law. The Marker selected him in 2005 as one of the ten most influential Israelis in the social sphere. In 2006, he was chosen as one of the three Attorneys of the Year by the Tel Aviv District of the Israel Bar Association (IBA). In 2013, Elbashan earned a place on the list of Maariv newspaper’s “100 Inspiring Israelis.” He was chosen by the IBA’s Tel Aviv and Central District as 2014’s Honored Member of the Profession. In 2015, the IBA awarded him an Honoris Causa degree, the highest accolade bestowed by the organization on its members. Elbashan has published nine books to date, including the bestsellers The Masada Case, Strangers in the Realm of the Law, Attorneys of the Exploited, and Forever Flora.
