This year, for the first time, Living Together is the leading professional partner of the “Gvanim in Academia” project. The program operates in 10 institutions in partnership with the San Francisco Federation, the Rothschild Foundation and Israeli Hope in Academia: The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, the Kibbutzim College Seminar, the Bar Ilan University, the Levinsky College of Education, the Sapir College, the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the Achva Academic College, HIT (the Holon Institute of Technology), the Tel-Hai College and the Betzalel Academy. The Gvanim facilitators have been receiving ongoing professional guidance and support from Living Together, and the vast knowledge gained during the previous years of the program is constantly gathered for the sake of refining our work model.
Additionally, at the end of March, we will embark on a new program for students – A Student “Task Force” on campus, in partnership with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 24 students, from a diversity of communities and identities, will take part in this program, aimed at strengthening connections between different communities on campus, thereby encouraging the development and implementation of joint initiatives that promote living together on campus.
Undoubtedly, since Orit Yulzary joined us as Director of Academia, we have seen a great deal of growth of meaningful and varied activities and programs in this field.
As part of the process of learning and building partnerships, Orit participates in the Israeli Hope Knowledge Exchange at New York Academy, in collaboration with JCRC -NY. The delegation learned about the higher education system in one of the most diverse cities in the world that sees diversity as the most important asset the city has. The delegation also learned about the role the academy has in emphasizing CUNY that has grown to enable more communities to acquire education, break through the cycle of poverty and integrate into a society that promotes life together.
Additionally, during this year’s first semester, we conducted a “Dibur Acher Ba’Akedemia” (Different Talk in Academia) academic course at the College of Management in Rishon Letzion. Next semester, the course will be conducted again at the College of Management in Rishon Letzionit as well as at the Azrieli College of Engineering in Jerusalem. During these courses, students undergo a meaningful identity and personality experience, while producing online content which furthers the course’s influence throughout the campus. So far, the courses receive excellent feedback from both students and faculty.
