A professor in the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Studies at Haifa University, a city planner and urban geographer, Professor Hamisi earned his doctorate in geography from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and did post-doctorate studies in London. He teaches at the Haifa University's Faculty of Geography and at the Western Galilee College; heads the CPS planning and studies center; and serves as head of the Haifa University Jewish-Arab Center. Professor Hamisi is also a senior researcher and planner, and is part of national, regional and local planning teams, leading alternative challenging planning concepts in Israel. He established and heads the Galilee Villages Water Corporation and consults to local authorities as well as private and public organizations on issues of strategic and urban planning and management. Professor Hamisi has served as senior researcher at the Van Leer Institute, and headed the Arab Society Documentation project. Between 2007 and 2009 he served as President of the Israel Geographic Society. In 2012 he was the Israel Planning Corporation’s recipient of the Notable Person of Honor award.
