Samira Azzam
[Task Force]

Azam has a B.A. in Middle Eastern History and Arabic Language & Literature, and an M.A. in Education. Until her retirement last year due to illness, she had taught Arabic for over twenty years. Azam has always loved volunteering in the community, especially among women. Her choice stemmed from the realization that there is discrimination against women in general, while Druze women specifically, whose starting-point is much lower to begin with, suffer far more discrimination. She is actively working to help the women of her village to rise up, demand their rights, and develop their talents.
While heading the WIZO chapter in Isfiya for the past twelve years, Azam founded the Cry of Isfiya Women group that successfully battled the dissolution of the union between Isfiya and Daliyat El Carmel. Azam is currently forming a women's group with the agenda of promoting fair representation of women in Isfiya’s local council.
"I have a dream… to live in a world of equality… that sees me first and foremost as a human being… I will fight for this right and for my humanity."
Azam was born in the Druze village of Isfiya on Mount Carmel. She and her husband Shibli have four children: Hanadi, Yusef, Yusara and Nagi.
